Sprinkler Winterizing FAQs
Answers to the Most Common Questions
Most homeowners choose to blow out their sprinkler valves as soon as the city turns off the secondary water supply. It is important to have your system winterized before the temperatures consistently fall below 32°F (0°C) to avoid damage to your irrigation system.
The blowout process is a pretty quick process, typically only taking about 15 – 20 minutes, depending on the number of zones. General steps are as follows:
- First we shut off the water supply to your irrigation system using the master shut off valve
- We will remove the backflow valve
- Connect the air line to the irrigation system
- Start up the compressor and run it continuously for 15 – 20 minutes, depending on the number of zones
- Seal off water lines to avoid debris from getting in there
